Carbon Finance Workshop: held on April 14 – 15, 2009 in Belgrade

Country Manager, David Gray welcomes the participantsThe World Bank,  in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Serbia, organized a two-day workshop “Accessing Carbon Finance“, held on April 14 and 15, 2009 at the Zira Hotel in Belgrade.

The workshop was an important opportunity for government officials, project developers, managers, experts, and other interested individuals from Serbia to familiarize on the potential for carbon financing and to learn how carbon finance can provide additional financing for projects. It also demonstrated how to identify possible projects.

On the first day of the workshop, the World Bank experts and specialists led by Antonio Lim, held a series of presentations on carbon project development and the carbon market including relevant case studies to illustrate the process of accessing carbon finance.

On the second day, participants learned about the role of the Designated National Authority and about experiences garnered worldwide in implementing the domestic framework under the Kyoto Protocol. A session showcased Bulgaria’s experience with the road map for preparation for negotiations and a clinic was held that was tailored to specific sectors or companies that may need further assistance in developing their carbon finance project ideas.
